Relicta (2020)

Relicta is a gorgeous SF game set in a terraformed Moon, with luxuriant jungles and icy glaciers on the lunar surface, all dotted with devilishly complicated 3D puzzles the player has to solve to keep moving.

My main challenge with Relicta was creating a story for a game that was already “done”. When I was brought into the development, most of the levels were already set. We couldn’t even change the order of the puzzles, so I had to craft a plot around what was already there. We also couldn’t show any characters onscreen, so all I had to work with was the first-person view and radio comms. Those technical constraints helped me focus on what was important - tone, mood and characters.

Dr. Angelica Patel and Dr. Laia Alami are some of my favorite characters. The cinematic script was really brought to life by the VO, and I relished the chance to work closely with the voice talent at Space London to really push the thriller drama to its climax. Designing the two DLCs that round off the plot of Chandra Base and its survivors was just the cherry on top.”
